Nick’s weekend schedule boosts higher win for young kids for second week, Monstober dominates Disney Channel; Disney Channel kicks off holiday schedule; Jinxed to premiere on Nick November 29th

 

Welcome to the holiday prep edition of Gene Scallop’s entertainment report. Here’s what’s topping today!

 

The young kids strike again as Nick makes up all the damage done by the mouse. This week, the network’s weekend schedule was definitely the win it needed when it premiered new episodes last week. Look for new episodes this weekend. Meanwhile, Disney Channel’s Monstober packed full of new episodes scored high marks since its release back in September. Cartoon Network’s newest animated series Uncle Grandpa joined the weekday lineup with new episodes of Regular Show and Gumball. The 3 originals top the charts with teens and tweens with much more numbers than last year. With 1 day to go until November, let’s check the numbers!

 

Nickelodeon

Nickelodeon’s October ratings performance nabbed the net a monthly win with Kids 2-11 and Kids 2-5 across all TV and basic cable’s top spot with total viewers, fueling Nick’s ninth straight month of gains for 2013. For the month, Nick averaged a 2.6/852K Kids 2-11 (+3%), 3.6/456K Kids 2-5 (+16%) and 1.6M total viewers, with gains driven by SpongeBob SquarePants–the month’s top animated series with K2-11 (4.8/1.6M), and its hit preschool lineup featuring Paw Patrol, which is the month’s number-one preschool series on all TV, averaging a 6.0/768K with Kids 2-5. In addition to its monthly gains, Nickelodeon’s preschool block is posting double-digit year to date increases, up +14% with K2-5.

Nickelodeon’s monthly ratings performance was also bolstered by its hit animation roster, including Sanjay & Craig, which ranks as the number-three animated series for the month with Kids 2-11 (4.4/1.4M) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (4.3/1.4M), which comes in at number-four with Kids 2-11.

Nick at Nite

Instant Mom continues to be a hit on Nick at Nite averaging 1.2M total viewers and posting year over year gains with Adults 18-49 (.30/323K, +9%) and Women 18-49 (.41/222K, +15%), since its Sept. 29, 2013 premiere.  Most recently, the series hit a ratings high with its Oct. 27 premiere, averaging a 0.4/420K with Adults 18-49 and posting double-digit gains with Kids 2-11 (1.7/559K, +13%).

Disney Channel

During October 2013, powered by ‘Monstober’ Halloween-themed episodes, Disney Channel, the 24-hour kid-driven, family inclusive television network, ranked as TV’s #1 network for the 30th consecutive month in Kids 6-11 (541,000/2.3 rating) and for the 42nd straight month in Tweens 9-14 (491,000/2.0 rating).

Competitively, Disney Channel towered over Nickelodeon by double digits for the 28th consecutive month in both Kids 6-11 (+37% – 541,000 vs. 396,000) and Tweens 9-14 (+90% – 491,000 vs. 259,000).

In Prime, Disney Channel lengthened its streak as TV’s #1 network to 104 consecutive months in Kids 6-11 (919,000/3.9 rating) and to 100 straight months in Tweens 9-14 (833,000/3.4 rating).

Cartoon Network

Across October 2013, Cartoon Network ranked as television’s #1 network for Early Prime (7-9 p.m.) delivery of boys 6-11.

Cartoon Network was October’s #1 television network for boys 6-11 & 9-14 on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday Nights (7-9 p.m.), the #1 network for boys 6-11 on Thursday Nights (7-9 p.m.), and the #1 network for boys 2-11 & 6-11 on Saturday Nights.

Original animated series Uncle Grandpa (Mondays, 8 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period with all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14, while the Emmy-winning Regular Show (7:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in its timeslot among boys 6-11 & 9-14. Popular and critical favorite original series Adventure Time (Monday, 7 p.m.) ranked #1 its time period among boys 9-14, with new episode premieres increasing delivery among kids 9-14 (+3%) & boys 9-14 (+16%) vs. the same time period last year.

Animated reality series Total Drama All-Stars (Tuesdays, 7 p.m.) scored as the #1 program of the day among boys 6-11 & 9-14, with new episode premieres increasing delivery by double digits among kids 9-14 (+11%) and boys 9-14 (+21%). International hit original series The Amazing World of Gumball (7:30 p.m.) ranked #1 throughout October in its time period among boys 6-11 & 9-14, with new episodes raising delivery among kids 9-14 (+6%), boys 2-11 (+1%), boys 6-11 (+2%) and boys 9-14 (+12%).

Based on the hit animated film How to Train Your Dragon, Dragons: Defenders of Berk (Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.) ranked as the #1 program of the day among boys 6-11. Similarly, Warner Bros.’ original animated series Teen Titans GO! (Wednesdays, 7:30 p.m.) ranked #1 in its timeslot among all boys 2-11, 6-11 & 9-14.

On Saturday mornings, action-adventure animated series Beyblade: Shogun Steel (8 a.m.) and Pokémon BW: Adventures in Unova (8:30 a.m.) ranked #1 in their respective time periods among boys 9-14.

Disney XD

Powered by the launch of “Mighty Med,” the network’s #2 series premiere on record, and solid outings throughout the month for “Crash & Bernstein,” “Kickin’ It” and “Lab Rats,” Disney XD soared to its #2 month of all time in Boys 6-14 (174,000/0.9 rating) and Boys 9-14 (125,000/1.0 rating) and placed among its Top 5 months ever in Kids 6-14 (#5 – 263,000/0.7 rating), Boys 6-11 (#5 – 127,000/1.0 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (#4 – 185,000/0.8 rating).

Disney XD more than doubled Nicktoons in Total Viewers (+103% – 414,000 vs. 204,000), Kids 2-11 (+121% – 236,000 vs. 107,000), Kids 6-14 (+183% – 263,000 vs. 93,000), Boys 6-14 (+164% – 174,000 vs. 66,000), Kids 6-11 (+168% – 198,000 vs. 74,000), Boys 6-11 (+131% – 127,000 vs. 55,000), Tweens 9-14 (+194% – 185,000 vs. 63,000) and Boys 9-14 (+178% – 125,000 vs. 45,000).

Impressively, during the week of October 14 – 20, Disney XD delivered its #1 week in the network’s history in Boys 9-14 (142,000), hit a 49 week high in Tweens 9-14 (213,000) and 47 week high in Kids 6-14 (282,000) – since weeks of 11/5/12 and 11/19/12, respectively – bolstered by Monday’s all new line up of “Crash & Bernstein,” “Kickin’ It,” “Mighty Med” and “Lab Rats.”
• “Crash & Bernstein” (10/14/13, 7:30 – 8:00 p.m.) garnered a series high in Boys 9-14 (257,000/2.1 rating) and its #2 telecast of all time in Kids 6-14 (489,000/1.4 rating), Boys 6-14 (332,000/1.8 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (340,000/1.4 rating).
•“Kickin’ It” (10/14/13, 8:00 – 8:30 p.m.) registered its #2 telecast of all time in Boys 9-14 (312,000/2.5 rating), its #3 telecast ever in Boys 6-14 (401,000/2.2 rating) and set 3-month highs in Boys 6-11 (264,000/2.2 rating) and Boys 2-11 (296,000/1.5 rating).
•Newcomer “Mighty Med” (10/14/13, 8:30 – 9:00 p.m.) posted solid gains over its series launch in target demos, and in fact, based on Live + Same Day ratings, became the network’s #1 telecast year to date in Boys 9-14 (394,000/3.2 rating) and its #2 telecast of 2013 in Kids 6-14 (771,000/2.1 rating), Boys 6-14 (490,000/2.7 rating), Kids 6-11 (537,000/2.3 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (573,000/2.4 rating).

Disney Junior: The Channel

24-hour Disney Junior Channel ranked as the #1 preschool-dedicated TV network for the 7th consecutive month in Total Viewers (430,000), Kids 2-5 (209,000/1.3 rating) and Boys 2-5 (106,000/1.3 rating) – each month since reporting public ratings – was #1 for the 4th straight month in Girls 2-5 (103,000/1.3 rating) and for the 5th month in a row in Women 18-49 (84,000).

Notably, Disney Junior channel delivered the month’s Top 5 telecasts in Kids 2-5 across preschool-dedicated TV networks:

•Disney Junior Channel surpassed Nick Jr. by double digits across target demos, including by 29% in Total Viewers (430,000 vs. 334,000), by 30% in Kids 2-5 (209,000 vs. 161,000), by 27% in Girls 2-5 (103,000 vs. 81,000), by 33% in Boys 2-5 (106,000 vs. 80,000) and by 20% in Women 18-49 (84,000 vs. 70,000), despite being in 14.0 million fewer homes.
•Disney Junior Channel towered over Sprout by triple digits across all key measures: by 149% in Total Viewers (430,000 vs. 173,000), by 165% in Kids 2-5 (209,000 vs. 79,000), by 171% in Girls 2-5 (103,000 vs. 38,000), by 165% in Boys 2-5 (106,000 vs. 40,000) and by 121% in Women 18-49 (84,000 vs. 38,000).

 

 

Last time, we found out that ABC Family’s 25 days of Christmas was released with new original holiday classics and returning shows as well as their collection of Christmas movies. Disney Channel’s holiday schedule was next in line this week with a holiday crossover just in time for the start of Winter season 2013. Which shows are joining the holiday party April?

 

April Bluefish (via Nick and More)- Disney Channel kicks off its annual month-long “Fa-la-la-lidays” programming event FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29 with a special one-hour crossover of the hit comedies “Good Luck Charlie” and “Jessie,” featuring an original holiday song performed by “Jessie” star (Debby Ryan). The month brimming with winter-themed episodes also includes a music-filled episode of “Austin & Ally” — featuring a duet with Austin (Ross Lynch) and Ally (Laura Marano) — a “Liv and Maddie” episode in which Liv (Dove Cameron) sings a classic holiday song, new episodes of “A.N.T. Farm,” “Dog With A Blog” and “Wander Over Yonder” and favorite holiday movies including “Good Luck Charlie, It’s Christmas!,” “Disney’s A Christmas Carol,” “The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause” and “Santa Buddies.”

Viewers are also invited to visit Disney Channel.com/FaLaLaLidays to celebrate the “Gift of Giving” in true holiday fashion, beginning November 26. Each week, kids and families will receive a new exclusive “gift” of a themed game or activity and can find ideas for giving back during the holiday season. Popular Disney Channel.com games and activities from holidays past will also be available.

The digital audio single of “I Love Christmas,” featuring Ross Lynch and Laura Marano will be available from Walt Disney Records at online retail, including iTunes and Amazon on November 25.

To date, Disney Channel is the #1 TV network in Total Day for the second consecutive year in Kids 2-11, the third straight year in Kids 6-11 and Kids 9-14 and fifth year in a row in Tweens 9-14. The third annual “Fa-la-la-lidays” programming event features hit series that rank among the Top 10 TV series, year to date, among Kids 6-11.

8:00 p.m. – “Jessie” and “Good Luck Charlie”

“Good Luck Jessie: NYC Christmas” – In the crossover episode, Teddy and PJ travel to New York City to tour a university, but a blizzard prevents their return home in time for Christmas. After meeting Jessie on the subway, they embark on a Ross family holiday like no other. Back in Denver, Bob takes the Duncan kids to meet Santa, but Gabe is not in the holiday spirit.

SUNDAY, DECEMBER 1

8:00 p.m. – “Liv and Maddie”

“Fa La La La-A-Rooney” – Liv is asked to sing a duet at the town’s holiday spectacular but her partner, a nine-year-old aspiring singer, is not quite what she seems. Meanwhile, Pete and Maddie are tasked with decorating the town Christmas tree, and Parker sabotages Joey’s get-rich-quick Santa booth.

8:30 p.m. – “Austin & Ally”

“Mix-Ups & Mistletoes” – Trish is organizing a Kids Club holiday party at which Austin and Ally will perform their original holiday song and distribute Austin Moon dolls, but a mix-up at the toy factory leads to a scramble. Meanwhile, Trish puts Dez and his arch nemesis, Chuck, through a competition to determine who will be a better Santa for the party.

FRIDAY, DECEMBER 6

8:00 p.m. – “A.N.T. Farm”

“silANT night” – Grundy tries to surprise the ANTs by dressing up as Santa Claus, but things take a surprising turn when the backup computer locks the kids in the school after its analytics deem Santa to be bad. It’s up to the ANTs to work together and convince the computer of the true meaning of the holidays so that it will unlock the building and they can return home for the holidays.

8:30 p.m. – “Dog With A Blog”

“Twas the Fight Before Christmas” – Avery sets out to create the perfect Christmas in anticipation of a visit from her Aunt, her mom’s ultra-competitive sister. A series of mishaps take place when Stan invites a stray dog named Sparky to spend the holiday with the family.

9:00 PM – “Wander Over Yonder”

“The Little Guy” – When the tiniest Watchdog cadet, Westley, is accidentally left behind on a planet, Wander and Sylvia befriend him and pretend to be his prisoners to help him reunite with Hater. Guest starring Aziz Ansari (“Parks and Recreation”) as Westley.

 

Also on November 29th, Nick’s getting “Jinxed” as the newest original movie solves this conundrum of who’s behind it. Who are the detectives that can solve the case and undo the curse Dan?

 

Dan Barry (via Nick and More)- The Murphy family sets out to reverse the curse in Jinxed, Nickelodeon’s hilarious brand-new original TV movie starring Ciara Bravo (Big Time Rush) and Jack Griffo (The Thundermans), premiering on Friday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. (ET/PT).  The 90-minute comedy follows the misadventures of Meg Murphy (Bravo) whose family has been magically cursed with “Murphy’s Law,” a spell of never-ending bad luck. Meg sets off on a zany journey to break the 100-year-old jinx that has caused the Murphys to become the unluckiest family ever.

“Jinxed is Nickelodeon’s fun and contemporary take on the old adage of ‘Murphy’s Law,’ infused with a positive message to embrace who you are,” said Russell Hicks, President, Content Development and Production, Nickelodeon. “Ciara Bravo and Jack Griffo team up to take fans on an amazing larger-than-life journey filled with humor, action and romance.”

Jinxed follows Meg Murphy (Bravo), a 14-year-old girl whose family has been magically cursed with “Murphy’s Law.” While spending the summer at her grandpa’s (Jay Brazeau) house, Meg develops a friendship with a local cutie named Brett (Griffo).  The possibility of romance probes Meg to discover the way to break the family’s “if anything can go wrong, it will” curse.  She and her daredevil little brother, Charlie (Jacob Bertrand, Marvin Marvin), set off on a hilarious, calamity-filled adventure to try to turn their family’s luck around once and for all, and give Meg the normal life she’s always dreamed of living.
